Here are some updates gathers by some external sources, Espically  Tribune India.

MARCH 1 , 2012

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has launched an operation to clear snow on the 475-km-long Manali-Leh highway, one of the highest roads in the world. The operation was started near Gulaba, 23 km from here, today.

The Manali-Leh highway winds its way through the 13,050-foot-high Rohtang Pass, the Baralacha Pass (4,883 m), the Lachlung Pass (5,065 m) and the Tanglang Pass (5,359 m).

The Manali-Leh road played a key role during the Kargil conflict as it was used for carrying food, arms and ammunition for Indian troops in Leh and Ladakh.

The Commander, 38, BRTF (GREF), Col Yogesh Nair, said efforts were being made to open the Rohtang Pass, the gateway to Lahaul and Spiti district, by April 15. Efforts were also being made to open the Manali-Leh highway from the other side of the Rohtang Pass in the Lahaul valley, he added.

He said four independent snow-clearing teams were deployed for the 222-km-long Manali-Sarchu section of the road. The teams would be assisted by snow-cutters and other modern machines.

The first team from Manali is clearing snow from the Gulaba camp, the second team between Sisu-Khoksar and Rohtang Pass and the third from Darcha towards the Baralacha Pass. The fourth team will start clearing snow between Marhi and the Rohtang Pass.

The early opening of the Rohtang Pass for vehicular traffic will bring relief to the people of Lahaul and Spiti district.

APRIL 25

The strategic Srinagar-Leh highway was opened for traffic Wednesday after a nearly five-month winter break, said a senior army officer.
"For the next one week, only light vehicles will be allowed on the highway," Brigadier T.P.S. Rawat, chief engineer of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), told IANS. The highway was opened to traffic after the BRO, which maintains the strategic road links and highways in the state, cleared away the heavy snow accumulated on the road, to make it traffic worthy.
"Despite heavy snowfall this winter, the road has been opened ahead of schedule. We had kept the road open up to December 7 last year and have opened it today after a gap of nearly five months," Rawat said.

The 437-km road was opened after Lt. Gen. S.A. Hasnain, General Officer Commanding the army's Srinagar-based 15th corps, flagged off a convoy across the Zojila Pass in the presence of Lt. Gen. S. Ravishankar, director general of BRO.

All the essential supplies to the Ladakh region and those for the army units posted in the border areas are routed through this road.
